During the Second Italian Workshop on Energy Storage 2023 (IWES 2023), that took place in Bressanone (Italy) on 25 – 27 January, Dr. Matteo Gastaldi and Prof. Claudio Gerbaldi (Politecnico di Torino) presented the PSIONIC project (https://www.psionic.eu/) through a poster in which the timeline and the main objectives toward more sustainable and innovative systems for lithium-ion solid-state batteries were detailed and discussed.
The workshop, organised by Gisel, the italian group for electrochemical energy storage, gathered more than 100 scientists and engineers that work in the field of batteries and energy storage from Italy, Europe and beyond.
The event was a fruitful moment to demonstrate the efforts by the PSIONIC consortium in developing new systems geared towards a green perspective, reducing the use of solvents for new generation of batteries with low environmental footprint.
During the workshop, research achievements and goals have been shared among all the battery stakeholders: the scientific program featured selected presentations related to topics that covered fundamental and applied research in electrochemical energy storage. The list of invited speakers was very rich, including top-quality scientists like Prof. Maria FORSYTH (Plenary speaker) from Deakin University – AUSTRALIA, Prof. Alejandro Franco (University of Picardie Jules Verne – FRANCE), Prof. Stefan Freunberger (Institute of Science and Technology Austria – AUSTRIA), Dr. Nagore Ortiz Vitoriano (CIC energiGUNE – SPAIN) as Keynote speakers, and Prof. Matteo Bianchini (University of Bayreuth – GERMANY), Dr. Jan Bitenc (National Institute of Chemistry – SLOVENIA), Prof. Silvia Bodoardo (Politecnico di Torino - ITALY), Dr. Nerea Casado (POLYMAT - SPAIN), Prof. Mark Copley (University of Warwick - UK), Prof. Alexey Koposov (University of Oslo – NORWAY) as Invited speakers.
Specific sessions were dedicated to the sponsoring companies, both producers of electrochemical/battery-related instruments or battery makers (ACC, AMIRA, BIOLOGIC, COMAU, FAAM, FKV, MDPI, METROHM, MIDAC, THASAR, ARBIN, EL-CELL), which also delivered talks focused on their equipment and/or marketing targets.
IWES2023 has been organised under the partnership of National Interuniversity Consortium of Materials Science and Technology (INSTM), Electrochemistry Division of Italian Chemical Society (SCI), and International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE).
